Re: avantgo for sidekick?
Wed, June 9, 2004 - 8:09 AMI don't think it would be necessary, since avantgo was designed for viewing text from websites when disconnected from the internet, and the sidekick has a reasonably good browser that is "always on" the internet... -

Re: avantgo for sidekick?
Wed, June 9, 2004 - 9:30 AMYes, but it's also fairly slow to access stuff on the net. One of the things I like about avantgo is that it trickles things into a local cache, so I can whip through them fairly quickly. On my pocket PC a local cache was a necessity because of the lack of wireless connectivity, but simply having a local cache of interesting items is useful in and of itself for speed.
Also, AvantGo delivers items in a format specific for mobile devices. While I'm impressed with how well the sidekick can display most pages, it's still a fairly clumsy experience because most websites simply don't design for mobile.
Plus, I often go camping in places that take me outside of my t-mobile area, and it would be nice to have certain bits of information cached for those times.
